Hans and I have a small bathroom. Small? I actually mean minuscule. I am pretty sure our shower, (yes shower, not bathtub) has more standing room than the rest of the bathroom. It's an upgrade from the bathroom I had back in Texas, at least size wise.
For such a tiny room, it's an incredible mismatch of style. To me, it's a little industrial, a little modern, and a little 'Tuscan'. Combined, they do not do it for me. We have brick/concrete walls that have been painted plain boring white. There's a pipe in the corner that's been painted white as well, hey at least they match, right?

| Taken about 2 weeks after moving in. |
The flooring is a beautiful concrete tile that has a 'Tuscan' feel, while the shower walls are off-white ceramic tiles with a bit of sandy-peach marbling. The sink is white porcelain, while the cabinets beneath are something straight out of the 80's and painted off-white. The combination of the sink and cabinet is awful!
When we moved in, the shower curtain was modern in style, white with black and gray circles. I'd been wanting a new shower curtain, but the style, color, and price had to be right. Almost a year later, I found what I had wanted and sent Hans to get it while he was out running errands.
Ladies, I'm slowly learning here, but NEVER send your husband to get something specific. When I tell him to surprise me on the style/type/color he does a fabulous job with his choices. When I am very specific, showing him pictures, and even giving him the picture to take along with him, he never gets what I want. He always finds something he likes better and makes an 'executive decision' to get the wrong thing.
This is what he brought home
While it's nowhere near as bad as the 'granny' tablecloth he once bought me, it's not much different than the one we had. Just replace the circles with squares and change the black and grey to blues.
Thankfully, the towels go with it, we're working on the rug.
Since I was stuck with his 'executive decision' I tried to make it work as best I could.
We'd bought a hat rack thing-a-ma-bob sometime last year for super cheap, like $1.50. It worked for storage, but it was ugly as sin. Trying to clean the look up a bit, I added a board I stole off the entertainment center to the top of the rack, then I swiped a basket from the kitchen.
This is what it looks like now.
Before placing the board on the shelf-rack-thingy, all of the towels 'sunk' through the slats/bars and looked so messy and junky. While it's not my favorite solution, it was free and it works, for now.
I just needed to add some color! I decided to make something, anything to liven it up. So, I made this.
It's not perfect by any means, but I think it helps.
Can you help me figure out what to do with this space?

Hmm...well done and a very good start! I think you need to add something as a feature of the space...maybe something like sea-shell, plants, picture or quotes to spice up as a feature point! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks PC! I was thinking the same thing. Not sure about plants, unless they're fake. There's no light in there, so I think the plants would strugle. I might go check out some wall stickers next week and see if there's anything I like. I need to invest in some masonry drill bits so I can hang things, too.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea. We have two horrible bathrooms..both in need of a total makeover. I am hoping little elves come in and do something while I sleep. Right now, neither of us is up for the job. Love you!
ReplyDeleteKathy, I'm short enough to be an elf, maybe I will come visit and fix them up for you!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Looks great, it's amazing what a little color can to do jazz up a room :)
