Here in Denmark the shops close around 5:30 or 6:00 every week night, and about 2:00-2:30 on Saturday afternoons. The larger grocery stores are open until 8pm on weeknights, 6pm on Saturdays, and 5pm on the first and last Sunday of every month.
For an American, this can be quite a shock. You have no idea how many times I've wished Holstebro had a 24-hour Wal-Mart. I've been here for just over a year now, and I'm still trying to get used to the shopping hours. What's a girl to do when she gets that mad craving for chocolate ice cream at midnight?
Thankfully, many towns here in Denmark host "Open by Night" It's like a big town party in the middle of the entire shopping street. They have hot dogs, cotton candy, balloons, coffee, hot chocolate, beer, and at least 2 stages with live music. It's like going to the fair, without the rides and fried food on a stick. The best part of it all, almost every single store stays open until 10pm! The downside to this event is that it doesn't happen very often. Usually only a few times during the year, until September arrives. I guess September is the right time to start getting ready for the holidays.
I forgot to bring my camera along for the trip, but I did take pictures of a couple of items I picked up. I was going to take pics of everything we purchased, but my husband abandoned me to go play a few games of pool. He happens to have the rest of my loot.
I've been meaning to replace my old oven mitts, but we couldn't afford to spend money on something so frivolous.
When I saw the price of these, I knew I had to grab them.
5DKK, for those of you who think in USD, that is $0.90 each! Score! (For any of my Danish readers, I got them at Sinnerup.)
I also scored this ceramic travel mug. It was a bit more expensive at $10.67, but I love my travel mugs and this one was totally me!
We also got a few random things, a roasting pan, some candles, floss, and spices. Hans also got 2 pairs of nice black jeans for his job as a church singer. They were originally $71.76 per pair, and we scored them both for $89.70. Thankfully the church is paying for them, $90 is a big chunk out of an already very tight budget.
Have you scored any great deals lately?

Looks like some great scores to me! I especially love that travel mug...tres chic!
